I found this little girl eating the yellow flowers on a Cassia on 10/20/2009.
Sh e was 2" long.
This caterpillae looks just like a yellow form of the Cloudless Sulphur but I swear
it turned into the butterly pictures below!

The very next days he stopped eating and at night, she was in the J position.

It took her 2 days to fully pupate.
Here are a series of picures on her progression from 10/22 till 10/29.

Orange Barred Sulphur Butterfly

On 10/31/09 she emerged! She actually came out at midnight on Halloween!
I thought that was strange that she emerged at night? What a great treat for Halloween!

The next morning I set her outside.
Her wing span was about 3".
It was very difficult to get her to open the wings to get a picture for ID purposes.
I finally had to assist a bit!
The female Orange Barred Sulphur does not have the orange bar on the forewing like the male.
So this is a female Winter Form Orange Barred Sulphur
